Do you charge for quotes?
No, quotes are free. We look at the job and give you a written price before any work starts.
What does an A gas ticket mean?
It's the highest class of gasfitter ticket in Alberta. We can work on everything from a home BBQ line up to larger commercial gas equipment.
Do you pull permits?
Yes. Plumbing and gas work that needs a permit gets one, and it's inspected. You get a copy for your records and your insurance.
Do you take emergency calls?
Yes, for burst pipes, flooding and no water. Fill out the booking form and choose Emergency so we can see what's going on and get back to you. Work outside our regular hours (weekdays 8 to 4) is charged at an after-hours rate, and we'll tell you the cost before we come out. If you smell gas, leave the building first, then call 911 or your gas company from outside.
Do you install gas lines for BBQs and garage heaters?
Yes. As licensed A gas fitters we run and connect gas lines for BBQs, ranges, dryers, fireplaces, patio heaters and garage or shop heaters in Sylvan Lake, Red Deer and area, with the gas permit pulled and inspected.
Do you winterize cabins on Sylvan Lake and Gull Lake?
Yes. We open cabins in spring and winterize them in fall: lines blown out, traps and fixtures protected, and the water system checked. Book early, since October fills up fast.
Do you test backflow preventers?
Yes. We're trained in cross-connection control, so we can test your backflow prevention assembly, repair it if it fails, and send the test report to your town, city or county. Commercial, industrial and multi-unit buildings in Red Deer and area usually need theirs tested every year.
How long does a water heater last in central Alberta?
Usually 10 to 12 years. Our hard water shortens that. If yours is past 10 years, rumbling, or leaking at the base, plan a water heater replacement before winter.
What is the Hodder Mechanical Advantage?
Our plumbing and gas maintenance plan. For one monthly price you get two check-ups a year, a gas safety check, priority booking, no call-out fee and 10% off repairs.
How far do you travel?
Sylvan Lake is home base. We cover Red Deer, Blackfalds, Lacombe, Eckville, Rimbey and out to Rocky Mountain House. Jobs in Lacombe, Innisfail, Rimbey, Ponoka and Rocky Mountain House have a travel fee based on distance. We'll tell you the amount when you book.
How do I pay?
We take e-transfer and cheque. Advantage plan memberships are billed monthly by credit card.
